Jane Garber-Rosenzweig
Current Role:
Owner and Principal at Gable Lawyers Pty Ltd
A little about me:
I am a mother, a lawyer, and entrepreneur. I have worked in the legal field for the last 15 years and I am currently running my own law firm, specialising in business and franchise law.
Describe your typical work day:
I do not have a typical work day as each day is different. I work, I am involved in the kids’ schooling, I do things with and for family and community. In general, I work 8-10 hours each day, but it’s on a flexible arrangement.
A full day mediation is also a huge day of working closely with individuals to express themselves and communicate openly and transparently in order to resolve issues. These can be very emotional days for the parties involved.
How has your Jewishness impacted your career:
I do not think that me being Jewish necessarily impacted my career greatly but it has shaped me as a lawyer and my approach to people.
What is your greatest professional achievement:
Being able to grow my own law practice to where it is today has been amazing.
What do you wish you'd known in year 12 or early on in your career:
Don’t advertise in magazines.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given:
Best advice came from my grandma when I was young. She told me to always treat others like I want to be treated in all aspects and to never lower my standards.
What was your biggest mistake at work and what did you learn from it:
My biggest mistake was not to open my own firm earlier. I was fearful of running my own business when I should have bitten the bullet and done it sooner.
What are your thoughts on failure:
All great successes come to fruition through failure. Each failure should be taken as a lesson.
What was the last experience that made you a stronger person:
I have had many life turmoils, including immigration and family breakup. I am definitely a much stronger person today as a result of all those.
What motivates you:
My kids.
How do you 'pay it forward' in your career:
I have trained and assisted a number of young lawyers over the years, all of which have very successful careers today.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up:
A teacher or a diplomat.
What is your definition of professional success:
When you are recognised and respected by your peers and other professionals for what you do and at the same time not compromising on family.
Who or what inspires you?
I am surrounded by amazing people in my family and amongst my friends. I take inspiration from each and every one of them.
What is your dream job:
I already have my dream job.

My best unwinding and time for myself is time spend with my sister and some of my closest girlfriends.

Persistent, enthusiastic and professional.
